Alopecia Areata – The Diesease of Hair Loss
November 30th, 2009 · Causes
I came across a great article today with an overview of Alopecia Areata, a condition that causes hair loss but is some what different then male pattern baldness or other heridtry hair loss conditions.
For those that aren’t familiar with Alopecia Areata, it’s an auto immune disease where your body actually attacks it’s own tissues. There are similar diseases such as Lupus, but specifically Alopecia Areata attacks the hair follicles.
Exact causes of this condition are still partially unknown and treatments such as DHT block shampoo has no affect on it since the condition is not caused by a hormone sensitivity.
This disease affects both men and women and can pop up almost out of no where. Patients suffering from the condition often thing of it as mysterious hair loss since there is no rhyme or reason.
The article I read gets into the possible hreditary aspects of Alopecia Areata, but as I mentioned, concludes that there is still no solid evidence or way to track who or how it will affect particular individuals.
If you’d like to learn more about Alopecia areata I’d suggest take a few moments to check out this article on the causes of the condition.
Tips to Help Prevent Balding from Being in Your Future
November 29th, 2009 · Tips
A great article I read today about helping you reduce the chances of hair loss in your future. Some of these tips were lifestyle changes and others were things you can do or change that will improve your hair right now.
I’ll summarize them here but you can visit the full article via the link at the bottom of this post.
Hydrotherapy – Helps keep the hair follicles open and free of clogging. This is the process of using hot and cold water via a cloth on the hair and scalp.
Healthy Foods – Few will argue that eating the right foods in your diet will improve your over all heath and hair health. The article suggests foods that are Biotin rich to help your hair.
Shampoo & Conditioner – Use products that are tender and light to the hair without harsh ingredients. If you a really afraid of potentially losing your hair at some point in life you could use a shampoo specifically for hair loss. It won’t have any ill effects if used even before you have hair loss troubles, you can check out our best hair loss shampoo here.
Supplements – Of course supplementing your body with nutrients that it may not get entirely from your diet is a good idea. The author suggest iron, zine and protein are key to maintain healthy hair.
Massage Therapy – This is specific to the scalp. Using essential oils and massaging the scalp helps improve circulation and keeps the follicles open.
Other points mentioned are stopping smoking if you do now, also reducing alcohol intake. You can read the full article here.
Temporary Womens Hair Loss after Pregnancy
November 28th, 2009 · Causes
Did you know that as a women you can experience hair loss after child birth known as postpartum alopecia? It generally happens 2-3 months after the birth occurs and can continue to progressively get worse for up to three or four months after wards.
Recovery occurs usually naturally and happens over about another 3-4 month period. Patience is key here.
The type of hair loss is usually a general thinning of the hair on the scalp. What does that mean? Well it’s not concentrated to one particular area of the scalp it’s all over.
If you’re afraid you may be suffering from postpartum alopecia don’t panic. A quick trip to your family doctor can answer your questions. This can affect up to 90% of women after pregnancy to varying degrees, but since it’s temporary you don’t nee dot panic.
Treatments are usually null since it fixes itself over a few months. The best thing you can do is try not to make the issue worse. Avoid coloring your hair, harsh hair styling products, hair dryers and straighteners.
You can use a shampoo for hair loss like Nisim’s new hair biofactors to try and slow the process if you want to ease your worries as well. This shampoo and conditioner combination simply replaces your regular shampoo each day when you wash.
Also when drying your hair pat dry rather then rubbing hard. This is easier on your hair and your scalp.

Are you losing your Hair? The signs to watch for.
November 28th, 2009 · Tips
An interesting article I read today about how to tell if you’re losing your hair. I read in a lot of hair loss forums and blogs that people are scared their losing their hair but when those who have gone through it before ask if they know the signs the answer is usually no.
This article laid them out nice and easy to understand. I’m going to recap them quickly:
Sign #1 – You usually will notice your scalp having a reaction to DHT because your hair become lighter and usually brittle. There can be some spots that are more oily then others. This is the first point you could consider getting a DHT blocking shampoo to reduce the reaction of DHT on your scalp.
Sign #2 - Thinning and lip hair is usually what comes next according to the author over at MedicalConditionsExplained.com.
Sign #3 – Receding hair line, I think we all are familiar with this although it doesn’t always mean you’re losing your hair. I myself have a receding hair line but I’ve had it since I was probably 20 and it isn’t really progressing much worse then it has been. The article suggests comparing it to an older picture.
Sign #4 – You’ll likely begin to notice more hair in your brush at this point as well as some hair on your towel you used to dry off your hair after you shower.
This is the point where you have the chance to really do something about the problem. Avoiding the signs can mean that a hair loss treatment regiment may not be able to do anything for you. Catching it early is key.

Lifestyle Changes and Tips to Prevent Hair Loss
November 27th, 2009 · Tips
While it’s not as easy as Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 according to an article I read today it is possible to make some lifestyle changes and choices which can reduce your chances of experiencing premature hair loss and male pattern balding.
There of course has been proof shown that there are “Hair loss genes” but still there are things you can do in your every day life, as a women or a man, to reduce or prolong your chances of experiencing hair loss.
I’ll quickly re-cap what that article said today and provide you a link below to read it for yourself.
#1 Avoid Stress: This can cause issues with hair loss, usually not premanent but smaller alopecia’s that come and go with extreme periods of illness or stress in your life.
#2 Food you Eat: Low iron or protein in your diet can result in some hair loss.
#3 Horomone Imbalance: More so for women, but can be an issue with men as well. Things such as pregnancy and going on or off birth control can be a cause of temporary hair loss for women.
#4 Poor hair care: This is one I hadn’t thought of, but the author suggests that using poor quality or harsh hair brushes as well as hair dryers can do permanent damage to your hair. If this is true then of course the opposite must also be true that if you get in the habit of using the best hair loss shampoo each day you should be able to prolong and reduce your chances of having thinning hair in the near future.

Approved Hair Loss Treatments Only two Available
November 27th, 2009 · Products and Treatments
There are only two different hair loss treatments that have been evaluated and approved by the FDA. One is Minoxidil and the other is Finasteride. Minoxidil can be used by both men and women to slow their hair loss while Finasteride can only be used by men.
Finasteride works by blocking the production of the #1 hair loss causing hormone DHT. When DHT is allowed to be produced and you have a sensitivity to it the hormone will attach to the hair follicle and cause it to shrink. Eventually the hair follicle becomes dormant and can not be revived.
Finasteride is taken as a pill daily as it works on the inside causes of hair loss. DHT is formed via a conversion of testosterone so by reducing the conversion of testosterone to DHT Finasteride reduces hair loss.
In contrast Minoxidil improves the blood flow to hair follicles on the scalp. This process is supposed to slow or stop the hair thinning process. Minoxidil can be used by both men and women since it has no affect on hormonal production in the body.
There are hundreds of hair thickening and loss products available. To ensure you’re going to get maximum results for your dollar you should try to find products that contain one of these particular ingredients. Since Minoxidil is a topical treatment it’s usually easier to find. In fact you can read about one such product in our provillus review available online that contains a 5% minoxidil mix in their topical solution.
Finasteride is not as readily available as it is taken in pill form.

The Hair Loss Gene – Does it Exisit?
November 26th, 2009 · Causes
The talk surrounding what causes male hair loss goes on and one forever. There are numerous reasons, of course the one that most professionals and men who have educated themselves on the topic can settle on is that DHT stops your healthy hair follicles from growing any new hair.
I just read an interesting post today on a blog discussing the hair loss gene. This was something I was totally unaware of. I knew that most hair loss was caused by hormone sensitivity on the scalp, but I hadn’t as of yet ever read anything that made me think it was hereditary why DHT caused the problem.
It turns out according to the post that in 2005 science found a gene that transmitted hair loss from the maternal grandfather. I presume the sometimes stated as fact line of “if your mothers dad is bald your screwed” mentality comes from.
Next in 2008 they found a different gene that was transmitted between father and son.
So it’s real, the DHT sensitivity on your scalp is inherited from possibly your father or grandfather but none the less it is passed around. It would be great if some how they could come up with a way of treating the gene I suppose but for now you’ll want to stick to products that stop DHT from killing off hair follicles.
The post discusses the potential use of Minoxidil for treating hair loss when it begins to happen. There are also DHT blocker shampoos you can try along with other oral DHT inhibitors.

Longevity of a Hair Transplant
November 26th, 2009 · Uncategorized
You might not be at the stage yet where you feel you need a hair transplant. I’ve always suggested (not as a professional just my thoughts) that you try a hair loss treatment regimen first of possibly a DHT blocker shampoo, DHT inhibitor and growth stimulant before you decide a transplant is needed. Of course not all products work for everyone and it can come to the point where a transplant will be needed.
How long is that hair transplant going to last? I was surprised to find out that it’s possible for a transplant to last more or less forever. Of course the quality of the hair that will grow back isn’t going to bring you back to those full headed hair days of your youth but it will improve an area that is more or less completely bald.
Since the process takes hairs from the back of the head where they’re less affected by DHT they can grow better on the upper part of the scalp. The results of course can be fantastic and bring you back to an entirely new you.

Ever Wonder What a Hair Transplant Really Looks Like?
November 25th, 2009 · Transplants and Surgery
I found a source today of a before and after gallery of men who are about to undergo hair loss transplant surgery. While there isn’t much question that a hair transplant is a sure fire way to get some new healthy hair back on the crown of your head there are some risks associated with it, along with a reasonable sized price tag.
Of course if you’ve been trying other hair loss treatment regimens such as hair loss shampoo or DHT inhibitors and you’re not seeing the success you’d like then a transplant could be your only option.
Personally I took a look at the image gallery that has been recently updated and I have to say that I was impressed. Quite a few of their clients have had great success with their procedures.
If you’re not quite at the stage where you feel you need a transplant or you haven’t yet tried anything to stop your current hair loss possibly consider our best hair loss shampoo recommendation. They guarantee to stop your hair loss in 7 days. It’s a quality product with a money back guarantee.

Be Educated to Avoid Hair Transplant Mistakes
November 25th, 2009 · Uncategorized
According to the experts at the BaldingBlog.com you can fix hair transplant mistakes, how ever if you’re careful when selecting a company to do your transplant you may be able to just avoid them entirely. There’s a great post over at their blog here that shows some before and after photos of how they fixed a clients mistakes made in a previous hair transplant at another clinic.
Since their are incisions etc. when the transplant is performed it’s important that your doctor understands how to do the procedure with the least amount of risk to you.
In their example the client had more then one procedure and there was more then one scar left from those transplants. It’s pretty amazing what they were able to accomplish. This cosmetic surgical procedure cleaned up the patients scalp nicely.
Something the post discusses at the end made a lot of sense. Their clinic holds an open house once a month where perspective clients can meet patients who have had the procedure done to them successfully by doctors of their clinic.
If more companies offered a service like this I can see how confidence could be easily built by you the potential client with that particular business. Hearing a doctor or sales person tell you everything is going to be alright is fine, but hearing it from the horses mouth of someone who has had the procedure done is much better.
If you’re not quite at the stage where you need a hair transplant I suggest you visit some of the pages on our site about hair loss treatments an regimens. Consider starting at our page on shampoo for hair loss. This particular product can stop further excessive hair loss from occurring in as little as a week.
