Alopecia Areata – The Diesease of Hair Loss

I came across a great article today with an overview of Alopecia Areata, a condition that causes hair loss but is some what different then male pattern baldness or other heridtry hair loss conditions.

For those that aren’t familiar with Alopecia Areata, it’s an auto immune disease where your body actually attacks it’s own tissues. There are similar diseases such as Lupus, but specifically Alopecia Areata attacks the hair follicles.

Exact causes of this condition are still partially unknown and treatments such as DHT block shampoo has no affect on it since the condition is not caused by a hormone sensitivity.

This disease affects both men and women and can pop up almost out of no where. Patients suffering from the condition often thing of it as mysterious hair loss since there is no rhyme or reason.

The article I read gets into the possible hreditary aspects of Alopecia Areata, but as I mentioned, concludes that there is still no solid evidence or way to track who or how it will affect particular individuals.

If you’d like to learn more about Alopecia areata I’d suggest take a few moments to check out this article on the causes of the condition.
