Alopecia Areata – The Diesease of Hair Loss

November 30th, 2009 · Causes

I came across a great article today with an overview of Alopecia Areata, a condition that causes hair loss but is some what different then male pattern baldness or other heridtry hair loss conditions.

For those that aren’t familiar with Alopecia Areata, it’s an auto immune disease where your body actually attacks it’s own tissues. There are similar diseases such as Lupus, but specifically Alopecia Areata attacks the hair follicles.

Exact causes of this condition are still partially unknown and treatments such as DHT block shampoo has no affect on it since the condition is not caused by a hormone sensitivity.

This disease affects both men and women and can pop up almost out of no where. Patients suffering from the condition often thing of it as mysterious hair loss since there is no rhyme or reason.

The article I read gets into the possible hreditary aspects of Alopecia Areata, but as I mentioned, concludes that there is still no solid evidence or way to track who or how it will affect particular individuals.

If you’d like to learn more about Alopecia areata I’d suggest take a few moments to check out this article on the causes of the condition.

The type of hair loss is usually a general thinning of the hair on the scalp. What does that mean? Well it’s not concentrated to one particular area of the scalp it’s all over.

If you’re afraid you may be suffering from postpartum alopecia don’t panic. A quick trip to your family doctor can answer your questions. This can affect up to 90% of women after pregnancy to varying degrees, but since it’s temporary you don’t nee dot panic.

You can use a shampoo for hair loss like Nisim’s new hair biofactors to try and slow the process if you want to ease your worries as well. This shampoo and conditioner combination simply replaces your regular shampoo each day when you wash.

Also when drying your hair pat dry rather then rubbing hard. This is easier on your hair and your scalp.

The Hair Loss Gene – Does it Exisit?

November 26th, 2009 · Causes

The talk surrounding what causes male hair loss goes on and one forever. There are numerous reasons, of course the one that most professionals and men who have educated themselves on the topic can settle on is that DHT stops your healthy hair follicles from growing any new hair.

I just read an interesting post today on a blog discussing the hair loss gene. This was something I was totally unaware of. I knew that most hair loss was caused by hormone sensitivity on the scalp, but I hadn’t as of yet ever read anything that made me think it was hereditary why DHT caused the problem.

It turns out according to the post that in 2005 science found a gene that transmitted hair loss from the maternal grandfather. I presume the sometimes stated as fact line of “if your mothers dad is bald your screwed” mentality comes from.

Next in 2008 they found a different gene that was transmitted between father and son.

So it’s real, the DHT sensitivity on your scalp is inherited from possibly your father or grandfather but none the less it is passed around. It would be great if some how they could come up with a way of treating the gene I suppose but for now you’ll want to stick to products that stop DHT from killing off hair follicles.

The post discusses the potential use of Minoxidil for treating hair loss when it begins to happen. There are also DHT blocker shampoos you can try along with other oral DHT inhibitors.

If you’re suffering from male pattern baldness then you’ve most likely heard the term Alopecia before. It’s a more scientific term for hair loss then balding. What you may not be familiar with is just how many different forms of alopecia exist. Let’s take a look at a few:

Congential Alopecia is relatively rare and is the complete loss or extreme thinning of hair all over the head. It is most often accompanied by deteriorating nails and even teeth.

The most recognizable form of alopecia is presenile. This is the type that causes young adults and middle aged individuals to gradually thin/love their hair. It can happen to both men and women, how ever in women it is usually associated with thinning of the hair only.

Seborrheic alopecia develops at the back part of the head. It is usually market with sebaceous excretions as well as thinning hair on the entire scalp.

Cicatricial alopecia is the actual destruction of hair follicles that are then replaced by connecting tissues. This is usually not very apparent at first but the end result is that the scalp eventually becomes completely smooth.

Areal alopecia is the possible temporary hair loss in small coin shaped areas on the scalp. They can occur around the hair line or any where really on the scalp. Sometimes the hair can grow back from this, while more often then not new skin forms and it remains a blank area.

Alopecia does come in many forms and while the most common is that which is known as pattern baldness if you suspect you’re suffering from another form of Alopecia I would suggest you visit your doctor for further opinion.

If Male pattern baldness is what you believe to be suffering from then the best option is to seek a hair loss treatment regimen as soon as possible. Using a shampoo for hair loss and hair growth product will produce the best results with consistent use.

Alopecia Aerata – Infrequent and Unkown Hair Loss

November 20th, 2009 · Causes

While the majority of men that visit HinderHairLoss.com are suffering from premature hair loss an male pattern balding there is a select group of men and women in the world who suffer form alopecia aerata. Unlike pattern baldness alopecia aerata is concentrated in small areas about coin sized.

From an article I read here it states it’s actually an immune defficiency condition where your body attacks hair follicles thinking they’re a foreign unwanted object for what ever reason.

Regular hair loss treatments like hair growth products and shampoos for hair loss do not work to recover the hair lost from alopecia aerata. The good news is that usually this hair loss doesn’t last for ever. Many men and women who suffer from it see the hair grow back in just a few months, although the trouble can reoccur again and again through out life.

This article is of course meant to just be educational, and if you’re concerned that your hair loss might be alopecia aerata then I would strongly suggest you visit your family doctor for a professional opinion. From my understanding there are no serious other side effects that can occur how ever the hair loss could be of other symptom so getting it checked out sooner then later would be advisable.
