The Hair Loss Gene – Does it Exisit?
The talk surrounding what causes male hair loss goes on and one forever. There are numerous reasons, of course the one that most professionals and men who have educated themselves on the topic can settle on is that DHT stops your healthy hair follicles from growing any new hair.
I just read an interesting post today on a blog discussing the hair loss gene. This was something I was totally unaware of. I knew that most hair loss was caused by hormone sensitivity on the scalp, but I hadn’t as of yet ever read anything that made me think it was hereditary why DHT caused the problem.
It turns out according to the post that in 2005 science found a gene that transmitted hair loss from the maternal grandfather. I presume the sometimes stated as fact line of “if your mothers dad is bald your screwed” mentality comes from.
Next in 2008 they found a different gene that was transmitted between father and son.
So it’s real, the DHT sensitivity on your scalp is inherited from possibly your father or grandfather but none the less it is passed around. It would be great if some how they could come up with a way of treating the gene I suppose but for now you’ll want to stick to products that stop DHT from killing off hair follicles.
The post discusses the potential use of Minoxidil for treating hair loss when it begins to happen. There are also DHT blocker shampoos you can try along with other oral DHT inhibitors.
The original post I read is here.
